On the border of different civilizations, the area of Friuli-Venezia Giulia has always been a place of meeting and exchange between latin, german and slavic cultures; this historical heritage is represented today by the open-mindedness of the population.
Trieste, the most cosmopolitan city in Italy, fascinates with its historical cafés, art, heterogeneous architectures and enchanting sea. Piazza Unità d'Italia is the heart of the city: "When you arrive in Trieste from the sea it seems that the city welcomes you with open arms".
More than 100 thoudands companies sustain the economy of the region through the"friulian model": small local companies born and empowered by a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
The region is sustained by the banking / insurance industry and by the industrial one. Some relevant sectors are the whitegoods, shipbuilding and steelmaking. On top to these, we have tourism and the high quality of agri-food products like Prosciutto San Daniele and Montasio cheese.
